The dam reinforcement method at the Artsvanik tailings dam operated by the "Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine" CJSC is going to be changed.

Internationally renowned companies have explored the tailings dam, and as a result of extensive monitoring, based on the recommendations made, a new method of dam reinforcement has been introduced. It is based on international best practices.

The new approach will increase the stability and seismic resistance of the dam, reducing potential risks. The rock fill needed to raise the dam is now being taken from the tailings dam area. In the future, it is planned to move the rock mass from the administrative territory of the city of Kapan. As a result, in the administrative territory of Kapan, there will be more flat areas, which are in great demand in a developing city.

The new method will result in faster dewatering of tailings. The collected water will be directed to the existing technical pumping plant for dust suppression and irrigation of green areas.

It should be noted that the RA Ministry of Environment has approved the environmental impact assessment report on the amendment to the mining project at the Kajaran copper-molybdenum mine.
