According to the trilateral memorandum signed between the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia, "Hayantar" SNCO and CJSC “Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine”, reforestation and afforestation works will be carried out on 273 hectares funded by the ZCMC. The goal of the project is not only to reduce negative impact on the environment, but also to restore ecosystems.
According to Armen Stepanyan, Deputy Director General of ZCMC CJSC, Director for Sustainable Development, 18 hectares of land have already been afforested by joint efforts of the “Hayantar” SNCO. “Reforestation on 2 hectares is underway, which will be completed this or next year,” said A. Stepanyan. He particularly emphasized that this program is being implemented in accordance with the inviolable principles of responsible mining, which are the basis of the Company’s activities.
As Deputy Minister of Environment Aram Meymaryan pointed out: "By signing the memorandum, we will continue our joint journey towards environmental protection. We must ensure the development of our country not only through mining, but also through long-term joint environmental efforts. I am confident that the impact of the projects implemented within the cooperation framework will be felt in Syunik, as well as in the capital."
The cooperation also envisages:
- joint planning of reforestation and afforestation programs,
- selection of appropriate areas with the involvement of stakeholders,
- development of programs with the participation of sector experts, exchange of information and reports on the implemented works,
- implementation of awareness raising and communication activities.
